Waigaoqiao nets 14 ships of 2.1M DWT

Shanghao Waigaoqio Shipyard in China has netted 14 ships totalling 2.1 million DWT for the first half of 2003. The shipbuilder received five 105,000DWT Aframax tankers during April to June from two Greek ship owners. It also received several 175,000DWT capesize bulkers from Belgium, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the US. As at the end of June this year, the shipbuilder has an order backlog of 3.145 million DWT which is enough to keep its workforce busy until 2006. Out of this total, Capesize bulk carriers account for 2.625 million DWT representing 15 vessels.
