Wärtsilä 31 engines for Mols-Linien ferry

The ship is being built at Rauma Marine Constructions’ shipyard in Finland and will sail in Danish waters between Rønne on the island of Bornholm and Køge, and between Rønne and Sassnitz. The ship is due to enter into service in summer 2018, with the engines scheduled to be delivered to the yard in July 2017.

The engine was launched in 2015 and its high efficiency was cited as a key consideration in the award of the contract. Its modular design enables a significant reduction in maintenance requirements and costs, with the first major overhaul scheduled at 32,000 running hours.

Flemming Kristensen, technical director, Mols-Linien, said: “Mols-Linien is looking forward to the launch of the new 1,500 lane meter ro-pax vessel. The selection of this particular engine was based on the unique efficiency for the required output, and also the favourable maintenance intervals it allows.”.
