Wärtsilä wins Hartman propulsion contract

The vessel will be equipped with the Wärtsilä 31 engine, recognised for best-in-class fuel efficiency and reduced exhaust emissions, supporting both fast and slow steaming operations while lowering maintenance requirements.

“Wärtsilä engines have consistently performed well across our fleet. The Wärtsilä 31 offers the performance range we need for both slow and fast steaming, combined with low maintenance requirements.”

Comprehensive offering

The Netherlands-based operator has established a new shipyard, Rock Shipbuilding, where the vessel build will take place.

In addition to the engine, Wärtsilä will deliver a comprehensive suite of vessel equipment, including a gearbox enabling PTI, PTO and PTH operating modes to further improve fuel efficiency.

The vessel will also feature a Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) controlled by Wärtsilä EcoControl and hydrodynamically optimised using the company’s Opti Design solution. Running the propeller at lower speeds when full thrust is unnecessary is expected to generate additional fuel savings.

Wärtsilä and Hartman Seatrade have an established relationship, with the technology group having supplied vessel equipment for several ships across the operator’s fleet.

The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery in spring 2027.
