Wärtsilä wins Hyundai contract

Under the contract, Wärtsilä Hamworthy will supply cargo related engineering including deck tank engineering, a reliquefaction plant, a Wärtsilä Moss inert gas generator, a Wärtsilä Svanehøj cargo pumps, a cargo heater and vaporiser, a cargo control system, supervision and commissioning of the project.

The 38,000m³ vessels will be delivered to the dockyard from the first quarter of 2014. They will each feature Hyundai Mipo’s new design. But, capacity has increased by 3,000m³ in order to strengthen competitiveness in the international shipping market.

The new design also comprises of an improved hull shape to minimise resistance in water and optimise fuel consumption, allowing ship owners to reduce operating costs. The vessels’ engine rooms and decks have also been designed so that LNG or LPG can be used as fuel. This will reduce CO2, SOx and NOx air emissions and will enable ship owners to comply with strict emission regulations.

The contract will increase the number of Exmar LPG vessels to feature Wärtsilä Hamworthy cargo handling engineering and equipment to thirteen.
