WATCH: Fleetwide connectivity for Hapag-Lloyd

The fleetwide agreement follows an evaluation that began in 2024 as part of Hapag-Lloyd’s Strategy 2030 digitalisation programme.

“Customers are looking for secure, resilient and fully managed platforms that can support operational transformation, digital innovation and evolving sustainability goals at a global scale.”

Secure communications

The fully managed connectivity platform combines Ka-band, LEO, LTE and L-band networks to provide resilient, secure communications supporting vessel performance, vessel monitoring, enhanced crew welfare and business-critical applications.

This new contract also includes Inmarsat’s Premium Care Programme, offering around-the-clock technical support and maintenance services at more than 80 ports worldwide.

A long-standing Inmarsat customer for almost 25 years, Hapag-Lloyd assessed the platform’s ability to maintain operational continuity while supporting application performance, cyber security resilience and the integration of an expanding digital ecosystem across its fleet.

Crew members also reported a consistent “home-like” internet experience with reliable global availability during the trial period.

The deployment is designed to provide high-speed, secure-by-design vessel connectivity with unlimited data, enabling real-time collaboration, remote IT management and data-intensive applications.

These capabilities will enhance vessel monitoring, improve vessel performance and support Hapag-Lloyd’s wider objectives of operational efficiency, sustainability and customer service as the container carrier advances its long-term Strategy 2030 ambitions.
