Water-soluble plastic film for pipe purging
A water-soluble plastic film dam has been introduced by Huntingdon Fusion Techniques for pipe purging during welding. The dam, made from Argweld water-soluble film, allows a small volume of pipe either side of the weld joint to be isolated and filled with inert gas to reduce waiting time and save wastage, says the company.
When the pipes are washed out or hydrostatically tested, the film and adhesive dissolves to molecular size, says Huntingdon.
Kits comprise 20m of 1m wide film on a spool, a safety knife to cut the dams, two bottles of water soluble adhesive and an instruction book. The film is available with trace element certification to show that elements such as halides are not present other than in very low quantities, says Huntingdon Fusion Techniques.
