Each of the 45,000m³ capacity vessels will be powered by a six-cylinder, 52-bore 6X52DF-A engine equipped with high-pressure selective catalytic reduction technology.

These engines are part of WinGD’s next-generation dual-fuel offering, specifically designed to operate on ammonia, one of the most promising zero-carbon marine fuels.

“Trafigura selected our technology based on our demonstration of X-DF-A’s development and strong performance indicators to date,” said Benny Hilström, vice president of market development at WinGD.

“With the first X-DF-A engine deliveries due in mid-2025, we will already have gathered significant construction and commissioning experience by the time these engines are delivered.”

WinGD recently confirmed the successful performance of the X-DF-A engine in tests, achieving full-load operation with just 5% pilot fuel and delivering diesel-comparable thermal efficiency.

The test engine also demonstrated exceptionally low emissions: NOx emissions were reduced significantly, with ammonia slip below 10 ppm and nitrous oxide emissions under 3 ppm.

The engines for the Trafigura vessels are scheduled to be delivered between early 2027 and early 2028.
