Worlds largest floating dock operational
A 300,000-tonne floating dock, the largest of its kind in the world, went into service recently in northeast China’s coastal city of Dalian. The dock, which is 340 metres long, 76 metres wide and 27 metres deep, is capable of repairing vessels up to 300,000 DWT. The dock was developed and built by the COSCO Shipyard Group and began trial production in October 2005.
Managed by the COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co., Ltd in Dalian, a subsidiary company of the COSCO Shipyard Group, the floating dock has undertaken the repair of more than 30 vessels from Canada, Russia, Greece and Iran since its trial operation.
