Yara completes first Scheme B certification

The ‘Scheme B’ certification, meaning that a full system test has been completed onboard rather than on a test bed, was issued for Ultra Deep’s new diving support and construction vessel Van Gogh, which uses MAN engines (two 8L32/40 and two 7L32/40) in combination with Yara’s SCR system. The Engine International Air Pollution Prevention (EIAPP) certificate ensures full compliance of the combined system under MARPOL Annex VI, meeting Tier III NOx emission limits.

“The certificate marks a technical breakthrough for our company as we are the first SCR supplier to successfully obtain this certificate on behalf of a marine customer,” said Michael Rutkowski, head of marine SCR sales, Yara Environmental. “The certification process has been done by engine makers and with SCR producers now being able to assist in this process, the customers will have a broader range of providers to select from.”

Peter Sandberg, CEO, Yara Marine Technologies said the development would allow the company to offer a more integrated full technology and service package to the marine market.

“The EIAPP certificate confirms the unique market position of our company and the breadth of services we can provide our customers,” he said.

Yara has delivered SCR systems onboard more than 400 vessels worldwide and claims that the systems reduce NOx emissions by up to 99%.
