Rolls-Royce battery power for six offshore vessels

The delivery includes an upgraded Energy Storage Container System (ESSU), Dynamic Positioning system (DP) and ACON control system. They will also be equipped with a new Rolls-Royce Energy Monitoring system.

New and improved

Until recently these five-year old vessels built by Cosco Guangdong, have been laid up in the yard. But following the announcement of SEACOR Marine Holding’s joint venture with China Cosco Shipping Group, the SEACOSCO venture wants to get them back into service as soon as possible.

There is a future option with the contract to upgrade a further two vessels.

The vessels are of Rolls-Royce UT 771 WP design with the characteristic Wave Piercing bow. The bow reduces wave resistance during rough conditions, resulting in a smoother ride than traditional designs, reduced fuel consumption and increased onboard safety.

In addition to having provided the ship design, Rolls-Royce also originally delivered an extensive package of ship equipment and systems to the vessels now being prepared for an environmental upgrade.

When work has been completed, SEACOR, which has its head office in Louisiana, USA, will take full operational responsibility for the vessels and add them to its current fleet.
