LNG carrier first for Babcock technology
The ecoSMRT innovative technology for the ships, being constructed at Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan and Samho shipyards in South Korea, enables LNG carriers to operate at the cutting edge of efficiency with greater reliquefaction capacity and significantly reduced power consumption – at a lower cost – than competing mixed refrigerant or nitrogen expansion systems.

Minimising emissions
Mr Campbell said that because the technology requires only one compressor, it benefits from a significantly lower power consumption, meaning reduced maintenance requirements and lower operating costs (OPEX).
Because it also minimises emissions, it is also helping to lead the way in meeting and exceeding global environmental legislations within the industry.
ecoSMRT is the result of a joint-development project between HHI and Babcock.
