CROE to supply emissions-reducing scrubbers for Songa Shipmanagement’s vessels

The scrubbing systems will enter commercial operations in late summer. The contract also includes an option to add scrubbers to additional vessels.

Flexible use

Glasgow-based CROE’s scrubbing systems are available into three basic designs: open loop, closed loop, and hybrid.

These can be a single stream (controlling emissions from a single engine or boiler) or multi-stream (controlling emissions from multiple engines/boilers combined) configuration.

Due to the small size and compact configuration of the CROE system they can be installed in newbuilds or retrofitted to existing vessels.

In addition to the existing 0.1% sulphur fuel Emission Control Areas (ECAs) in Europe and North America, starting 1 January 2020, shipowners globally will need to reduce the sulphur fuel emissions (and associated emissions from their marine engines and boilers) to 0.5% sulphur from the current 3.5%.

The global 0.5% limit will leave shipping companies with the choice of using more expensive lower sulphur fuel or alternate technologies such as scrubbing systems.
