Stena Line opts for Corvus for ferry battery refit
The 1 MWh lithium ion-based Energy Storage System (ESS) will enable emissions-free berthing of the Stena Jutlandica, which will make Stena the first Swedish ferry operator to operate a ferry with zero emissions in port.

EU funding
The project, which is co-financed by the European Union and Swedish Transport Administration, will initially involve employing plug-in hybrid technology that charges with shore power and draws on battery power for bow thrusters and manoeuvring when berthing in port.
But the ultimate goal is for the Stena Jutlandica to operate fully on battery power, requiring an estimated 50 MWh of stored energy for the 3 hours and 25-minute crossing between Gothenburg, Sweden and Frederikshavn, Denmark.
Stena Teknik, Stena’s marine technical solutions branch, is working with electrical system integrator Callenberg Technology Group, part of Trident Maritime Systems, to incorporate the Corvus Energy 1 MWh capacity Orca Energy ESS.
