Wärtsilä deploys Eniram expertise to enhance navigation systems

The test, conducted onboard Costa Cruises vessel Costa Atlantica, confirmed that adding real-time trim management to the Nacos navigation, automation and dynamic positioning platform provided ‘further advances in operational efficiency’. According to Wärtsilä the benefits realised from the integration included greater operational visibility, fewer workstations and improved customer support in the collection and analysis of data.

Maik Stoevhase, director automation, navigation and communication, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions, said: “This programme fits well into Wärtsilä’s digitalisation strategy and our roadmap of horizontal integration across Wärtsilä’s product portfolio. This testing programme confirmed our ability to create a better value chain for data collection and analytics.”

The combined system represents an important element of Wärtsilä’s integration of Eniram, which it acquired in 2016. Combining the Eniram Trim and Nacos technologies makes the system easier to use and creates greater availability of guidance information, which is available on all Nacos screens.

Eniram’s trim analysis is based on a model of a vessel’s hydrodynamic characteristics combined with information gathered from attitude sensors on the hull and the vessel’s automation and bridge systems. Wärtsilä’s Nacos Platinum system combines control systems for navigation, automation, dynamic positioning, power and propulsion, allowing the vessel to be navigated, controlled and monitored from multiple locations onboard.
