Princess LNG cruise ship build agreement
The 175,000 tonne cruise ships, which when completed will be one of the largest ships built so far in Italy, are scheduled for delivery in Monfalcone in late 2023 and in spring 2025.
“This is an all-time record project, both in terms of size and technological level,” said Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri.
“It will allow us to maintain a solid partnership between our country and the Carnival group – the largest foreign investor in Italy and at the same time to maintain know-how and increase employment.”
Innovative design
Jan Swartz, President of Princess Cruises said that these new vessels will introduce innovative design and leisure experiences driven by the future vacation and lifestyle trends of its guests.
The vessels will be based on a next-generation platform design and are the first Princess Cruises’ ships to be dual-fuel powered primarily by LNG.
Back in February 2018, Carnival Corporation (which owns Princess Cruises, AIDA Cruises and eight other major cruising brands) announced it planned to launch seven fully LNG-powered ships between 2018 now and 2022.
The first in the series, AIDAnova is arriving in late 2018 and once it sets sail, it will have the largest passenger capacity in the world.
These seven vessels are under construction by German and Finnish shipbuilders Meyer Werft and Meyer Turku.
