Anthony Veder LNG bunker vessel debuts with AIDAnova

The 7,500 cbm vessel, Coral Methane, was modified from an ethylene/LNG carrier. The operation marked the first LNG bunkering operation for the Coral Methane.

“The delivery of Coral Methane as an LNG bunker vessel, in partnership with Shell, underlines our dedication to LNG and marks the next step in our contribution to a sustainable supply chain”, said Klaas Kerssemakers, CEO of Anthony Veder.

Anthony Veder noted that the 12-month long conversion included modifications such as a boil-off gas management system to reduce natural gas losses and carbon emissions.

The Coral Methane was originally developed for the transfer of LNG between large scale LNG terminals, and small-scale terminals along the Norwegian coast. It combined diesel-gas-electric propulsion with PODs for maximum operational flexibility, manoeuvrability and safety. This manoeuvrability made the vessel suitable for conversion into a bunker vessel.

The operational procedures were updated to ensure compliance with the SGMF (Society for Gas as Marine Fuel) recommendations and guidelines.
