Ulstein unveils latest in X-JACK series
The Ultstein J102 is the latest model in the company’s X-JACK series, all of which have a patented cruciform primary structure said to achieve weight savings of 10 to 15%.
Ko Stroo, product manager at Ulstein Design & Solutions, said that floating vessels with self-propelled jack-ups are the preferred method for installing wind turbine foundations.
“Using a high capacity crane of up to 2,500 tonnes and 160m hook height above deck, the J102 design will allow contractors to efficiently carry and install four 15MW wind turbines per round trip,” he added.
Each design in the X-JACK series has a kite-shaped hull, cruciform structural arrangement, a vessel beam enabling floating lift operations and increased propulsion efficiency because the wake of spud cans does not interfere with thruster inflow.
The new J102 has a length of 145m, width of 88.4m and a depth of 11.0m. The free deck area is 6,500m² and the capacity is eight 8MW turbines or four 15MW. The main crane can lift 2,500 tonnes at 39m and 1,250 tonnes at 65m. The main hook height is 160m above deck.
