DNV GL asked to assess solid electrolyte battery ESS
The company’s Japanese partner, 3DOM, has developed the SEB cell technology while the American joint venture partner, Ockerman Automation, provides integration expertise. Lavle plans to release the commercial version of the SEB ESS within 12 months.
The 3DOM SEB cells utilize a unique, patented separator technology that enables the use of lithium metal in the anode and solid materials for the electrolyte between the cathode and anode electrodes. The company claims SEB technology offers increased energy density, a very high depth of discharge and faster charge rate, as well as longer life cycle and lower ESS volume and weight.
Lavle forms part of the Washington Maritime cluster, which is being supported by the Washington State Department of Commerce. The state’s strategy, which was unveiled in January 2019, included plans to support decarbonisation within the state, as well as electrification of Washington State Ferries. The overarching strategy is to create a maritime cluster, which will sustain research & development and support its journey to eventual commercialisation in maritime markets.
