Boxship owner books EGCSs from new Dutch supplier

Visser Shipping operates a fleet of four containerships, consisting of two 809 TEU containerships, one 660 TEU and a 366 TEU container ship providing container transport throughout Northwest Europe and the Baltic Sea.

A Visser Shipping representative noted that the company had chosen to install Value Maritime scrubbers because their cost and complexity “was more in line with the size of our ships.”

Value Maritime has developed a small prefabricated, pre-installed, “plug and play” EGCS in a 20ft transportable casing, that filters sulphur and ultrafine particulate matter (PM 2.5) from a vessel’s exhaust gases. Value Maritime received an International Air Pollution Prevention (IAPP) certificate from Lloyd’s Register for its scrubber system on 12 February 2019.

The EGCS comes in three sizes suitable for vessels with different engine sizes. These include 3.0 MW, 6.0 MW and 9.0 MW variants. The three systems selected by Visser Shipping were 9.0 MW systems.

The EGCS are set to be installed on Visser Shipping’s vessels between October and December 2019.
