MHI FINISHING THIRD SAYARINGO GAS CARRIER
The vessel will transport LNG from the Cameron LNG Project in Louisiana to Japan, Two purchasers of LNG, Toho Gas and Tohoku Electric Power, form part of the ship’s ownership structure, along with NYK and Mitsubishi Corporation.
The vessel is the third example of MHI’s Sayaringo STaGE next-generation type to be constructed at Mitsubishi Shipbuilding’s Nagasaki complex.
Cargo containment is a derivation of the Moss spherical tank solution, whereby the upper hemisphere of each tank is larger than the lower hemisphere, resulting in a shape that resembles an apple (“ringo” in Japanese), enclosed by a continuous steel cover (“saya” in Japanese, denoting a pod-like form).
The vessel features a STaGE, or “Steam Turbine and Gas Engines”, hybrid propulsion arrangement consisting of MHI’s ultra-steam turbine (UST) and reduction gear, and a combination of dual-fuel diesel gensets and electric propulsion motor.
Both the dual-fuel reciprocating machinery and the UST can operate on cargo boil-off gas, while waste heat from the engines is recovered to heat the feedwater flows to the boiler in the steam turbine plant.
