HHI has ordered the thruster systems for the construction of three new 155,000 dwt shuttle tankers for the Malaysian shipping company AET for use in the company’s operations in oil fields outside Brazil.

“This order means we can already say with great confidence that we will achieve high volumes in our factory in Molde in 2020,” said Kåre Øyvind Vassdal, chief executive at Brunvoll.

“The order also provides a platform for winning more orders like this one in the future. We have been investing resources in technological development for many years, and we have highly skilled employees capable of developing new products and services to meet the needs of our loyal customers in the future,” he added.

During operation, the vessels will use dynamic positioning (DP) with the help of two tunnel thrusters and three retractable azimuth thrusters totalling 13,700 kW. Brunvoll has just completed the delivery of similar thruster systems to five vessels ordered by the same shipping company built at the Samsung shipyard in South Korea.

Today there are 84 DP shuttle tankers on order or already in operation with Brunvoll building up a 70% share in this market. Several of the older vessels in this segment are being phased out as they complete 20 years in operation, the maximum operating period for this type of vessel.
