The installation of the CleanSOx scrubber on board Cratis took just 30 days to complete, including the vessels’ survey work carried out at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore. Clean Marine has so far installed hybrid scrubbers on board six of Dorian LPG’s VLGCs with the seventh scrubber installation expected next month.

“Docking of vessels for scrubber retrofits means that the vessel has no income in the period, so every minute and hour we can reduce our installation time means increased revenues for the shipowner,” said Svein Ole Strømmen, chief operating officer of Clean Marine.

The CleanSOx EGCS offers Allstream exhaust gas handling meaning all exhaust sources on board can be served by one common EGCS unit, enabling a fast return on investment. The system works equally well in open (liquid one time through) and closed (liquid recirculation) models and in all types of water. Seawater and alkali are used to regulate the sulphur trapping efficiency in both modes.

The scrubber also has the ability to combine natural and added alkalinity in open loop operation, meaning it will provide high cleaning efficiency while maintaining a pH greater than six at the outlet, making the effluent compliant with all IMO regulations.
