FGSS supplier for first dual-fuel VLCC
The newbuilding, which is being built for COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation (CSET), will be the first dual-fuel VLCC when it enters service in 2022.
The vessel will be fitted with 2 x 3,500cbm single-walled Type C fuel tanks, which will be manufactured by a domestic Chinese supplier. The design and supply of the overall fuel gas supply system (FGSS) will be provided by LGM Engineering, in what is the largest FGSS order received by the company.
The newbuilding features an optimised aft deck integrated arrangement for the LNG gas supply system, safety system and filling system, which minimises the influence on the arrangement of the deck house and increases cargo capacity.
The vessel will also be the first VLCC to fully comply with EEDI Phase III requirements. The dual-fuel engines meet IMO NOx Tier III requirements in gas fuel mode, and reduce SOx emissions by over 95 percent.
COSCO Shipping ordered 4 x 319,000dwt VLCCs at DSIC in 2017. The company announced that it was specifying dual-fuel LNG-powered propulsion for one of its vessels on order in a stock market filing at the turn of the year.
