Genset order for Finnish corvettes
The Finnish Defence Forces has ordered four Pohjanmaa-class corvettes to be built by RMC in Finland. Each vessel will be equipped with four 12V175D-MEL gensets, each rated at 1,920 kW. The MAN 175D gensets will feature double-elastic seating, and several of the gensets will have noise enclosures for silent operation.
The newbuildings form the basis of the ‘Squadron 2020’ project to replace seven older vessel. The new vessels are intended to secure vital assets at sea and in the Finnish archipelago until the 2050s. The engines will be suitable for arctic operation and capable of functioning in extremely low air-intake temperatures.
During normal patrol operations, the 114m long, 16m beam corvettes’ twin, ice-strengthened, controllable-pitch propellers will be driven by electric propulsion motors. The vessels will be constructed between 2022-2025. The first test-runs at sea are already scheduled for 2024 with all vessels projected for completion by 2028.

RMC has good experience in working with MAN and looks forward to continuing the cooperation for the Squadron 2020 project from Augsburg.”
