LNG fuel availability widens in Europe
Titan LNG has announced a development tender for the Titan Krios bunkering barge, which will increase the accessibility of LNG as a marine fuel in the Port of Zeebrugge, due to merge with the Port of Antwerp, and in the English Channel ports. The vessel will operate with multiple tanks to segregate streams of LNG and bio-LNG.
Michael Schaap, Titan LNG’s commercial director of marine, commented: “As demand for LNG, and increasingly bio-LNG, accelerates, ensuring the right infrastructure and supply is in place for our customers is essential.”
He added: “With the new Titan Krios joining our expanding fleet, we will continue our efforts to enable a more sustainable future for shipping through global accessibility to LNG, bio-LNG and eventually clean LNG produced from green hydrogen.”
2023 delivery
Designed by HB Hunte engineering to enable fast, flexible and reliable LNG supply, Titan Krios offers 4,200 cbm in capacity, cargo conditioning equipment and two bow thrusters for easy manoeuvring. The first delivery is expected to be in 2023.
The development tender comes just one month after the launch of LNG bunkering barge FlexFueler002, co-built by Titan LNG and Fluxys. The vessel serves the Port of Antwerp and wider region, alongside the FlexFueler001.
Titan LNG is currently chartering the Green Zeebrugge, to supply LNG to large LNG-fuelled vessels in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region. The 8000 cbm Titan LNG Hyperion is also due to be available early 2023.
Bio-LNG is the sustainable carbon neutral fuel produced from biological waste streams. As it can be stored and supplied using existing infrastructure, blended with LNG, and dropped into existing engine technology, bio-LNG presents a financially sound long-term investment for many operators and owners looking to decarbonise operations, and comply with emission reductions regulations.
