Final Approval for GTT NO96 Super+ containment technology

The new NO96 Super+ technology represents an evolution of the NO96 containment system. The NO96 Super+ technology maintains its principal features, in particular the double Invar metallic membranes and the mechanical anchors fixing the insulation panels to the hull.

NO96 Super+ offers the advantage of reducing the heat ingress inside the tank by integrating insulating Reinforced Polyurethane Foam (R-PUF) panels instead of plywood boxes. Thermal performance is additionally improved by the addition of Glass Wool joints, inserted between adjacent foam panels.

As a result, GTT has lowered the cargo boil-off rate (BOR) from its NO96 membrane containment system yet further. The company expects NO96 Super+ to offer a guaranteed Boil Off Rate (BOR) of 0.085%V/d for 174,000 m3 LNG carriers. Scale effects would allow the new system to achieve even greater reductions down to 0.08%V/d for larger capacity vessels, such as 200,000 m3 LNG carriers.

Reducing Boil Off Rate is essential for the industry as ship-owners and shipyards face ever increasing economic and environmental challenges.”

The Motorship notes the improvement in the thermal performance of NO96 cargo containment systems is also likely to lower transport costs and CO2 emissions.
