GE Power to provide SeaGreen PTO for Maran Gas LNG carrier

The new LNG carrier will join the fleet of next generation LNG carriers for Maran Gas, which will be designed to be the lowest emission LNG carriers in service.

The LNG carrier is scheduled for delivery to Maran Gas Maritime in 2023 and will be built at Samsung Heavy Industries’ yard in Geoje, South Korea. 

GE’s scope of supply includes two sets of medium voltage APMM shaft generators offering high power density, a compact design and excellent thermal performance, and GE’s proven MV7000 medium voltage pulse width modulation (PWM) active front end frequency converters. GE is responsible for design, engineering, commissioning, training and assistance for sea and gas trials.

The company’s induction-based motor and high-output power pulse width modulation technology have gained a strong position in LNG carriers, offering improved reliability and lower maintenance costs. The contract extends GE’s position in the LNG carrier segment, with the company having received over 100 orders for its power and propulsion systems since January 2012.
