Danish navy davit delivery
The Norwegian company will deliver eight TDBS 8000 systems for launch and recovery of fast rescue boats to be installed on four Absalon and Iver-class naval frigates.
Vestdavit began working on the tender process in 2018, developing the new davit concept over the past four years in line with the navy’s specifications, according to managing director, Rolf Andreas Wigand.
He explained that a major challenge was limited space which the company has overcome with a high level of automation and remote control of davit movements.
“This new solution combines the versatile features of a crane with the functionality of a davit to provide extreme performance in terms of outreach extension and lifting capacity,” said Rolf Andreas Wigand. “This represents a further evolution of our telescopic davit range,” he added.
The davit’s telescopic arm is able to extend up to seven metres and handle boat loads of up to eight tonnes and is mounted on a slewing foundation that can swivel outwards from a longitudinal position in a confined space on the side of the vessel hull.
Approved by DNV and compliant with Solas requirements, the system is designed to handle multiple sizes of craft and is capable of deploying and retrieving craft in sea state 6.
