World’s first dual-fuel LNG Suezmax bunkered
The supply of 1,500mt of LNG took place at the Port of Pengerang in Malaysia on 4 July 2022 following the vessel’s delivery from China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International.
The delivery and LNG bunkering were completed with support from various industry partners, including the leading marine fuel supplier, Peninsula, who partnered with Petronas Marine to perform the LNG bunker supply.
India’s Reliance Industries chartered the Greenway for her maiden voyage to carry a cargo of ultra-low sulphur diesel which will be loaded at its terminal in Jamnagar. The vessel will then continue to trade in the spot market.
The 274 metre-long, 157,300 dwt Greenway is the first of two dual-fuel LNG Suezmaxes. The sister vessel, Starway, will be delivered in August 2022.
EPS is also adding ammonia to its fuel mix. The company has announced it intends to order an ammonia dual-fuel gas carrier which will be built at HHI, to be registered under the Singapore flag, and classed by ABS. It will be the first vessel fitted with MAN Energy Solutions G60 two-stroke dual-fuel ammonia engine.
EPS CEO Cyril Ducau says: “We believe that our industry will need to rely on multiple solutions to steadily lower and eventually eliminate emissions. That’s why it is critical for us to constantly invest and develop various alternative marine fuels in order to offer the right solution to the right segment at the right time.”
The company has also announced that it will retrofit two MR tankers with carbon capture systems from Value Maritime, making them the largest ocean-going vessels fitted with carbon capture technology to date. The installation of the first system is scheduled to be completed within 2022.
