Ingeteam supplies converter for smart ferry

With a capacity of up to 375 passengers, construction on the ferry began last year at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea’s seventh largest city.

With a length of 89.2 metres and breadth of 12.8 metres, the ferry has a maximum speed of 16 knots and will shortly begin service on the ‘Whales Sea Travel Line’ near Jangsaengpo, a port in the region.

Ingeteam has supplied and commissioned its converter Ingedrive LV400 DC Grid type, which is said to enable a more efficient grid by reducing the number of power conversion stages and allowing for variable-speed generation of the gensets.

As the converter operates as a DC grid it can serve directly as the ship’s power plant.
