Statement of Fact for Korean BOG recovery system
The technology offers an alternative to high-pressure compressor based solutions for the recovery of boil-off gas produced by containment systems during the transportation of LNG.
According to SHI, the BReS is a heat exchange technology that uses cold heat from LNG supplied through an engine instead of a high-pressure compressor. The Korean diversifed group claims that the new technology offers a lower cost technology for re-liquefying excessive boil-off gas, and can reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions from LNG-fuelled vessels.
Samsung Heavy Industries & Construction noted that it has completed 15 demonstration tests so far, including the BReS solution, using the LNG demonstration facility completed in May 2021.
Park Geon-il, technical committee member of Samsung Heavy Industries’ Eco-friendly Research Center, said, “With the strengthening of IMO environmental regulations, it is urgent to develop new technologies for carbon neutrality in the shipbuilding and shipping industry,” and emphasized, “Samsung Heavy Industries will continue to lead the market through the development of various eco-friendly technologies and products as well as LNG.”
