The vessels incorporate enhanced cargo tank insulation by way of the GTT Mark III Flex+ containment system, which reduces the boil-off rate to 0.07% of cargo volume per day.

The propulsion plant in each case comprises two five-cylinder models of the WinGD X72DF dual-fuel, two-cycle engine, each rated for 12,180kW at 75.7rpm, driving fixed pitch screws. The IMO Tier III-compliant machinery and the propellers were manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Considerable auxiliary power is in place in the shape of four generators supplied by Nishishiba Electric, comprising two 3,650kW aggregates and two of 2,750kW. Each ship has two economisers and two auxiliary boilers, made in China by Alfa Laval Qingdao.

The gas carriers provide a showcase for Samsung’s SVESSEL ‘smart ship’ technology, conferring enhanced safety and efficiency through remote monitoring of vessel performance and operations.

The raft of class descriptions include the ENVIRO additional, voluntary notation, integrating ABS requirements with international conventions for environmental protection.

MISC ranks among the largest single owner-operators of LNG tankers worldwide, the two latest vessels having taken LNGC fleet strength to 31, complemented by two LNG-FSUs and six very large ethane carriers (VLECs).

In September 2022, the group confirmed a contract for a further two 174,000m3 newbuilds against 10-year charters to SRM. Each will be powered by WinGD X-DF 2.1-series engines incorporating proprietary iCER technology. Moreover, efficiency will be enhanced by the adoption of under-hull air lubrication systems.

As with Seri Damai and Seri Daya, operation and husbandry of the newbuilds has been entrusted to the MISC Group company Eaglestar Shipmanagement, along with responsibility for project management during the shipbuilding phase.

MISC has also partnered with Japanese and Chinese companies in a programme of 12 newbuild 174,000m3 LNGCs destined for long-term deployment by QatarEnergy. Due in 2025, seven of the ships will come from HHI and five have been ordered from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, and all have been specified with WinGD two-stroke dual-fuel propulsion and air lubrication systems.
