HST Marine welcomes second hybrid-electric CTV

HST Frances follows the delivery of HST Ella in 2021, the industry’s first vessel of this type and winner of the 2022 EMCAs Green Technology Award. The 25m vessels can carry 12-24 personnel, with a hybrid electric propulsion system that cuts fuel consumption by a reported 30% compared to similar CTVs powered by diesel engines.

Both vessels were designed by UK naval architect Chartwell Marine and built at UK shipbuilder Diverse Marine on the Isle of Wight.

Guests at the ceremony included Petra Wilkinson CBE, director of Maritime for the Department of Transport, Robin Mortimer, chief executive of Port of London Authority, Rear Admiral Rex Cox, chief executive of Home Shipbuilding Scheme, and the Rt Hon. Lord Mountevans, chair of the Baltic Exchange and Member of the House of Lords.

HST Marine’s fleet has supported windfarms such as Moray East and East Anglia 1 for companies including Vestas & SGRE. Owner Purus Wind also provides commissioning/servicing to its offshore wind customers and plans to order another four to eight vessels.
