Mitsubishi in Imabari LNG FGSS deal

The FGSS are destined for nine newbuild LNG-fuelled car carriers and three newbuild LNG-fuelled bulk carriers.

The systems feature an optimised cargo space layout with a modular design said to allow for easy maintenance access and shortened construction times. They also have a customisable, proprietary control system.

Imabari Group has previously contracted Mitsubishi Shipbuilding in 2021 for FGSS for car carriers but this is the group’s first order for bulk carriers. This latest order brings the total supply to 18 units – 15 car carriers and three bulk carrier – with two already delivered.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding is also providing technical support at Imabari’s Nishi-Tadotsu Division where LNG fuel tanks are in build.

In accordance with owner Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ initiatives for energy transition, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding is providing FGSS units to a wide range of customers, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting the use of LNG.
