Brunvoll chooses Leclanché for ferry retrofit

The MF Rygerbuen passenger and vehicle ferry will be converted from conventional fuel use to a electrically-powered zero emission vessel.

Owned and operated by Rødne Trafikk, Norway’s largest family-owned high speed boat company, the vessel is destined for the 3.5 kilometre trip between Stavanger and Vassøy, an island port which can only be accessed by private boat or ferry.

During the sub-30 minute journey the ferry will be powered by a 940 kWh Leclanché Navius MRS-3 battery energy storage system equipped with liquid cooling.

Brunvoll said it selected Leclanché for the project following extensive collaboration on the system design and simulation.

The vessel will be constructed at the Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted Shipyard in Fitjar, Norway, south of Bergen.
