Höegh Autoliners inks biofuel supply deal
The advanced biofuels are expected to lead to an 85% reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions compared with conventional marine fuels.
Höegh Autoliners noted that it has seen an increasing number of customers opting for biofuels, including BMW Group since 2022, emphasising the industry’s commitment to sustainability and the need to have trusted partners with long-term solutions to meet their changing needs.
Höegh Autoliners has been trialling operations on advanced biofuels since 2021, when Höegh Trigger completed a carbon-neutral voyage operating on advanced biofuels between Europe and South Africa. Höegh began offering biofuel to a number of customers in 2022, and its annual consumption of biofuel rose to 10,377 metric tonnes of biofuel in 2023. The company notes that several other projects in the pipeline are expected to further increase the biofuel supply in 2024.

In line with its ONE VARO Transformation strategy, its biofuels business, is focused on reducing the use of food and feed as feedstocks and building assets to manufacture advanced biofuels derived from waste and advanced feedstocks, including Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and Renewable Diesel (HVO).
