MOL in first LNG bunkering in western North America
Conducted on 1 March 2025, this was both the first LNG bunkering for MOL in western North America and the first bunker for an LNG-fuelled car carrier in the region.
“Until now, there was no LNG fuel supply base in western North America, and the deployment of LNG-fuelled vessels was limited,” explained Yoshikazu Urushitani, general manager, Marine Fuel GX Division.
“This bunkering will expand the range of areas where we can deploy environmentally friendly LNG-fuelled vessels and provide customers with more options for expanding their clean supply chains.”
The LNG was supplied by Seaspan Garibaldi, an LNG bunkering vessel operated by Seaspan Energy, to Lake Herman, a MOL-operated LNG-fuelled car carrier on a ship-to-ship basis.
“We are proud to share in this milestone with MOL as Lake Herman is the first car carrier to be fuelled by a ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in western North America,” said Harly Penner, president, Seaspan Energy.
“We appreciate the trust from its customer and look forward to a long-lasting relationship.”
