Southampton launches zero-emission vessel

The partnership combined RAD Propulsion’s electric propulsion and autonomous technology with Williams Shipping’s marine operations expertise. Together, they deployed an electric vessel to support a major marine civil engineering project, transporting materials across one of the UK’s busiest waterways from Williams’ quayside facilities.

“This operation perfectly exemplifies our vision of revolutionising marine propulsion through intelligent, connected and sustainable solutions,” said Dan Hook, chief executive of RAD Propulsion.

“Working with Williams Shipping has allowed us to demonstrate the real-world application of our electric technology while supporting the local maritime community.”

The project delivered three major operational advantages of zero local emissions and integrated autonomy all with a low acoustic signature.

For Williams Shipping, the initiative was an opportunity to trial alternative fuel solutions and demonstrate a fully emission-free approach to port operations.
