Incat to supply third battery-electric ferry for Molslinjen

The 129-metre craft will join two sister vessels already under construction at Incat’s Hobart shipyard. All three ferries are destined for the busy Kattegat routes linking Aarhus–Odden and Ebeltoft–Odden, where they will provide fast, dependable and entirely emissions-free transport on one of Denmark’s most heavily trafficked domestic corridors.

Incat Tasmania’s chief executive, Stephen Casey, said: ““This is an important milestone for both organisations.” He further noted that Molslinjen is setting a benchmark for the decarbonisation of European fast-ferry operations.

Molslinjen CEO Kristian Durhuus emphasised that constructing all three ferries at the same shipyard offers operational and technical continuity, enabling lessons learned from each unit to be carried through the programme. He said the decision also reflects the company’s determination to push the green transition forward using technologies that were unavailable only a short time ago.

Work on the three-vessel electric fleet is advancing in Hobart, with deliveries set to be phased over the coming years.
