Tank gauging system accommodates list and trim
The system is claimed to provide automatic correction of tank volumes based upon measurement of the vessel’s draught and/or its inclination.
Two available options each use the PSM ict1000 hydrostatic level transmitter. For draught measurement only, two transmitters are installed, fore and aft. To to take account of trim, four transmitters can be installed, adding one each mid-ships port and starboard. The system can display actual draught values for all points monitored. Angular inclination can be measured in two planes, trim and heel, by the use of one or two solid state inclinometers mounted within the superstructure, and these angles can be shown on the ship’s display.
PSM says it can supply systems preconfigured with tank level data tables, based on the naval architect data for the specific vessel, to aid installation and set-up. The company says that the system is simple, and offers an economical solution for non-inventory tank measurements including fuel, product and cargo tanks on various ship types.
