Alewijnse secures Van Oord service contract

The partnership involves the management of the onboard electrical systems over a period of three years starting from 1 September 2015

Alewijnse has a long history with the two vessels as it was responsible for the electrical installations on both when they were first built.

Jaap de Jong, director ship management, Van Oord, said: “With this strategic partnership in place we optimise our supply chain which will give way to operational improvement and cost reduction in our fleet management.”

Ben Bonte, director of Alewijnse Marine Rotterdam, added: “Over the next years we are confident that we can prove that we have what it takes to execute this service level agreement satisfactorily. And beyond we see an exciting future with Van Oord.”

He added that this order from Van Oord further reinforces the position Alewijnse has developed in the maritime market for service, maintenance and inspections.

Away from the contract with Van Oord, Alewijnse Marine has good relationships with plenty of other big builders and operators.

It recently completed an electrical conversion on the oceanographic research vessel Marion Dufresne II during a four month refit at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque.

In June, Alewijnse Marine Systems celebrated its first anniversary of delivering electrical services and maintenance to vessels at the shipyard.

Work for Damen began back in 2014 with the MPI Resolution maintenance project.
