Wärtsilä secures LNG regasification orders
The contract, which includes an option for a system on a further Hoegh vessel valid until December, were signed in July. The hybrid systems can be used to regasify LNG either in closed-loop mode (using steam with water/glycol as the intermediate heating medium) or open-loop, using seawater with propane.
The modules, designed for easy installation, are supplied with seawater filters and steam/seawater heating modules. The Gazprom system will be winterised, capable of operating in ambient temperatures of -30°C. Printed circuit heat exchangers and plate heat exchangers save space and weight, while the use of seawater for heating results in lower CO2 emissions than steam heating.
Wärtsilä, which claims to hold a major share in the ‘large energy demand market’, has also delivered modularised regasification plants for jetty installations. These facilitate a much shorter construction time than conventional land-based LNG regasification terminal projects.
