Maersk orders MHI waste heat recovery systems

Including the new order, MHI will have supplied its proprietary system – which converts the heat from diesel exhaust gas into electrical power – to 69 Maersk vessels, including its 18,300 teu Triple-E series. With 87 systems delivered prior to this order, MHI claims to hold a 90% share in the global waste heat recovery system market.

The system is said to optimally control exhaust gas turbines and steam turbines to recover energy from waste heat across a wide range of engine loads. MHI introduced its technology in 2010 and has an installed base of 64 vessels, with the remainder on order or under construction.
