Colfax extends water pump range for bigger ships
The extensions to the Allmarine MI-D centrifugal pump systems feature a capacity of up to 3,900m3/h and a delivery head of up to 50m. The system pumps seawater and fresh water for use in cooling and ballast water systems.
The double-suction, symmetrical design uses just one shaft seal, no internal bearings, and corrosion resistant materials. Four-pole motors reduce space needs and procurement costs compared to six-pole motors, the company notes, and efficiency of the pumps is said to be greater than 80%.
Christian Martin, director of product management, Colfax, said: “The MI-D is probably the lightest and smallest water pump for large flow rates yet it also has an outstanding service life and extraordinary efficiency in marine applications.”
The company has also updated its CM-1000 electronic pump controller. The system controls the flow of cooling seawater pumps according to the temperature of the fresh water and current cooling requirements, while condition monitoring keeps track of leaks, vibrations, and bearing temperature. A new turnkey solution packages all the electronics into a ‘cabinet solution’, including frequency converters.
The new CM-1000 also shuts down the pumps completely when the ship is at a standstill or slow steaming in a cold environment, switching them back on automatically as required. A ‘cooler clogging supervision” function monitors cooler status and supports the crew during planning and servicing of the cooling system.
