Kistler develops pressure sensors for engine monitoring
Cylinder pressure measurement is a crucial factor in closed loop combustion control (CLCC) for large engines, it provides on-line feedback information to the engine control system about the operating continuation in the combustion chamber.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has set a target of achieving a 10% increase in the efficiency of new ships by 2020, this means today’s shipping industry has to meet increasingly stricter regulatory requirements.
A response to this has been the use of new cutting edge engine technology such as the Kistler pressure sensors.
Cylinder pressure readings also provide meaningful information about the condition of an engine when used as a regular maintenance basis.
Peak pressures on large engines can be recorded periodically by Kistler’s diagnostic equipment.
It can be installed quickly and easily on the indicator vale on the engine and aims to deliver accurate and reliable measurement data from the sensors.
Kistler will be exhibiting at SMM from 6-9 September in Hamburg.
