Alfa Laval launches high-pressure fuel gas supply system

Alfa Laval's new high-pressure fuel gas supply system features a space-saving diffusion bonded heat exchanger

The Alfa Laval FCM One Gas features a diffusion-bonded heat exchanger that can handle cryogenic temperatures and pressures as high as 650 bar – beyond the 300 bar required by MAN Diesel & Turbo’s ME-GI engines, for example. The unit features automation for start, stop and purging sequences, providing automatic control of fuel pressure for low energy consumption at any load.

According to Roberto Comelli, business manager, fuel conditioning systems at Alfa Laval, the small size and high thermal efficiency of the printed circuit heat exchanger, which powers the system’s LNG vaporiser, allow significant space savings and greater flexibility.

“The first vessels with these engines are only now setting sail,” Comelli said, noting that reliability of systems would be a crucial factor as ship operators begin using high-pressure dual-fuel engines and the systems associated with them.

The Alfa Laval FCM One Gas will be on display at Alfa Laval’s stand at SMM Hamburg on 6-9 September (A1.226).
