Shell fuel supply for Carnival LNG ships

As reported, Carnival is building a total of seven vessels that will be the first cruise ships to be powered by LNG at sea. The company’s AIDAprima already burns LNG during port calls but has no gas storage capacity.

One vessel will refuel from Shell’s LNG bunker vessel using fuel loaded at the Gas Access to Europe terminal in Rotterdam. The second ship is expected to refuel at one of the ports in the Western Mediterranean.

Lauran Wetemans, general manager downstream LNG, Shell, said: “We have been working closely with Carnival to get to this point in our commercial partnership. Working together from an early stage is critical in helping the transition to cleaner LNG cruising. This is a unique partnership that will contribute to a robust and reliable LNG fuel supply chain, along with opportunities for future growth.”
