Corvus hybrid contract
MS Hannah Kristina is a hybrid cargo transport vessel which will utilise a 1,000kWh Orca Energy ESS to provide 100% of the vessels energy requirements during harbour operations.
Orca Energy is part of the recently announced Orca ESS product line from Corvus has been specifically designed for hybrid and all-electric maritime applications.
Halvard Hauso, EVP sales and marketing at Corvus, said: “The Orca ESS solutions were designed with exactly this type of application in mind.”
“With twice the amount of energy in half the space, at half the installed cost, Orca makes great financial and environmental sense.”
The Orca product line also includes safety innovations such as cell-level thermal runaway isolation which has been approved by NMA and does not require active cooling techniques such as liquid cooling to be effective.
This contract aims to ensure reduced fuel and operating costs but also drastically will dramatically reduce the environmental impact of the vessel.
Hans Petter Heggebø, CEO at Halvorsen Power Systems AS, explained: “The Orca Energy ESS from Corvus was an extremely compelling solution for this application.”
He concluded: “By combining industry leading safety, performance and economic feasibility, Corvus has achieved the ultimate maritime ESS with Orca and we really enjoy working closely with the skilled and enthusiastic Covus team in Bergen.”
