Non-spherical Moss LNG tank gets AiP

The IMO Type B tanks have been developed for use on 180,000m3 gas carriers designed to pass through the new Panama Canal. They can also be used with Kawasaki’s advanced heat insulation panel system.

DNV GL carried out comprehensive sloshing and buckling analyses together with KHI, which demonstrated that the new tank provided an equivalent level of safety performance to the spherical tank with no filling restrictions.

An AiP is an independent assessment confirming that a design is feasible and no significant obstacles exist to prevent the concept from being realised. It is typically carried out at an early stage of a project to confirm feasibility for the project team, company management, external investors or regulators.
