ANDRITZ barge scrubber suits any vessel

Air quality around ports is a major issue and one that authorities are working hard to tackle. However, initiatives such as alternative fuels and onshore power supply (OPS) can be expensive and difficult to implement. Furthermore OPS is not an option for vessels at anchorage.

To overcome these challenges, ANDRITZ has developed SeaSOx Barge, which is able to reduce SOx, NOx and particulates independently of ship size, fuel or engine configuration.

The system is based on the SeaSOx Dual/Multi Filtration technology, the equivalent solution for installation directly on board vessels. A crane on board the barge lifts one or two devices to the funnel of the vessel, where the exhaust gas is collected and fed to the treatment plant on the barge.

Ammonia/water and sodium bicarbonate are used to reduce NOx and SOx respectively and particulates captured by the filter, resulting in harmless sodium sulphate, N2 and H2O.

ANDRITZ is said to be the only company globally to offer, deliver, install and successfully commission a complete range of exhaust gas cleaning systems for maritime vessels. The portfolio includes open-loop and hybrid scrubbers as inline (I-type) and bypass (U-type) models for wet scrubbers as well as dry, dual filtration systems without wash water.
